Hiking Maggie’s Peaks Near Lake Tahoe

My oldest son, Nick, flew home to surprise us with a visit a few days ago. He’s been missing our mountains, forests, and the hikes we always take as a family.
So, yesterday, we drove to South Lake Tahoe to a trailhead near Emerald Bay. Xander is home for the weekend from college, too. We wish Jul could have joined us. But, it’s not easy to “pop home” from Alaska.

We hiked up past Granite Lake and then up to Maggie’s Peaks at 8,500 feet elevation. It ended up being around 6 miles round trip and about 1,778 ft climbing.

Nick took a freezing swim in Granite Lake as a break when we were hiking up. The views at the top were spectacular. The weather was so nice. About 60F and sunny.

We were starving after the hike, so we grabbed an early dinner at Artemis in South Lake (our favorite Greek place).
